Cultivating Wonder, Protecting Nature
Help Buffalo Audubon at Beaver Meadow connect people of all ages to our shared natural world

Here's one child's experience...
Her small hands trembled slightly as the bird bander gently placed the Black-capped Chickadee in her open palms. She felt the bird's fragile heartbeat and smiled.
“Go on,” he whispered.
She looked up, wide-eyed. “Do you think it will come back?”
“Maybe,” he replied. “Birds remember safe places.”
She released her breath—and the bird. It paused in the summer air, then lifted into the sky. She watched its wings carry it over the trees and into the sky.
Magical moments like these, where people connect with nature and create lifelong memories, happen at Buffalo Audubon’s Beaver Meadow Nature Center. They are experiences that shape lives forever. As a supporter, we're confident you have similar core memories from time spent outdoors.
These moments live at the heart of The Promise of the Wild—our shared promise to protect nature, inspire wonder, and pass along the beauty of the natural world to our next generation.
Since 1909, Buffalo Audubon has helped Western New Yorkers fall in love with the natural world. We’ve welcomed explorers of all ages into our forests, fields, and wetlands, which are filled with life and learning. We are a vital community resource where school children experience the magic of pond dipping, families create lasting memories exploring Nature Play and Fairy House Lane, and dedicated volunteers work tirelessly restoring native plants to provide sanctuary for birds and other wildlife.
And now, thanks to you, we are growing.
Later this year, we’re breaking ground on a unique and inspirational multilevel educational treehouse complex that will be unlike anything else in our region.
Imagine a treetop adventure where children climb inside giant blossoms; perch on people-sized bird nests; and explore platforms that offer a bird’s-eye view of the pond, forest, and sky. These fully ADA-accessible structures will make it possible for people of all abilities to experience the wonder of nature from new heights.
Today, you can make a profound difference in advancing our work and mission, and elevate our efforts with this incredible project. Please give generously and help provide life-changing experiences for thousands of annual visitors.
Together, we will give every person a place to belong in nature, and every child a reason to care for it.
Here's how your gift can help:
- build the treehouse, bringing the nests, flowers, and elevated walkways to life;
- inspire wonder by providing scholarships and supplies for nature campers;
- restore habitats through the planting of native species that support birds and pollinators;
- expand access to ensure our nature playscape, trails and exhibits welcome everyone;
- and grow programs and offer new experiences that allow people to connect with nature.
